Mariyam Cementwala, JD

Mariyam Cementwala completed both her B.A. in political science and her law degree from the University of California at Berkeley. She is also a former George J. Mitchell Scholar who studied under renowned international disability and human rights expert Gerard Quinn at the National University of Ireland Galway's Irish Centre for Human Rights. She has completed projects with Rehabilitation International and participated in the drafting of the CRPD at the United Nations. After practicing law at a large Washington DC-based law firm, Mariyam most recently served as a Legal Fellow on the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary's Subcommittee on Human Rights and the Law chaired by Senator Richard J. Durbin. Blind herself and born in India, Mariyam brings a first-hand understanding of global and culture-specific perspectives on disability, in addition to her legal and political expertise.
